Related Items
Ascent connects the records in your documentation — assets, credentials, documents, contacts, software, vendors, services, domains, and certificates — so the things that belong together are linked together. The Related Items panel surfaces all of those links in one place on every record's detail page, and lets you add or remove them without leaving the page.
Where you'll see it
Open any of these records and look for the Related Items card (usually in the right-hand column):
- Assets
- Credentials
- Documents
- Contacts
- Software
- Vendors
- Domains
- Certificates
The card groups everything linked to the record by type — for example, an asset might show the Credentials, Documents, Contacts, and Services linked to it — with a count badge for the total number of links.
Viewing related items
Each linked record appears as a row with its name (and, where useful, a second line such as a credential's username or a contact's email). Click the name to jump straight to that record. Some links also show a role badge — for example, a contact linked to an asset as its "Primary User".
You only ever see links to records you have permission to view. If you can't read a particular type of record, that group simply doesn't appear, and any individual records outside your client access are hidden.
Linking a record
- Click Link in the top-right of the Related Items card. (You'll only see this if you have permission to edit the record.)
- Choose the type of record you want to link using the chips at the top of the picker.
- Start typing to search. Records you can link to — and haven't already linked — appear in the list.
- Click a record to link it. It's added immediately and removed from the picker so you can't link it twice.
Linking is idempotent: linking the same two records again does nothing, so there are never duplicate links.
Removing a link
Hover over a linked item and click the ✕ button on its row. The link is removed right away. Removing a link only unlinks the two records — neither record is deleted.
Permissions
- To see the panel and its links you need read access to the record and to the linked record's type.
- To add or remove links you need edit (update) access to both the record you're on and the type of record you're linking. Ascent checks this on the server for every link and unlink, so the controls you see always match what you're actually allowed to do.
Every link and unlink is recorded in the audit log against the record you acted on.
